Newton's Third Law
In the context of aviation, Newton's Third Law, also known as the law of action and reaction, plays a crucial role in understanding how aircrafts are able to fly. This law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In aviation, this principle is applied in the propulsion of aircraft. When the engine propels exhaust gases backward, the aircraft is pushed forward due to the reaction force. This is the primary force that propels a jet aircraft forward. Similarly, the lift that allows an aircraft to rise and stay in the air is also a demonstration of Newton's Third Law. The wings of an aircraft are designed in a specific shape (airfoil) to cause the air pressure above the wing to be lower than the pressure below the wing. This difference in pressure results in an upward force (lift) that opposes the force of gravity. Therefore, Newton's Third Law is fundamental in the design and operation of aircraft, influencing both their propulsion and lift.
