Ultraviolet Light

Ultraviolet light is a type of electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than X-rays. In aviation, ultraviolet light is important for its effects on materials and human skin. Exposure to ultraviolet light can cause degradation of materials used in aircraft, such as plastics and composites, leading to reduced strength and durability. Ultraviolet light can also cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer for pilots and other aviation personnel who spend significant time outdoors. As a result, aviation professionals must take precautions to limit exposure to ultraviolet light, such as wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen.
