Anti-G Straining Maneuvers
Anti-G straining maneuvers (AGSM) are techniques used by pilots and astronauts to counteract the effects of high gravitational forces (G-forces) experienced during flight. These maneuvers involve a combination of muscle tensing, breathing techniques, and body positioning to prevent blood from pooling in the lower extremities and depriving the brain of oxygen. AGSMs are critical for pilots and astronauts who fly high-performance aircraft or spacecraft, as they can experience G-forces that are several times greater than the force of gravity on Earth. Failure to perform AGSMs can result in G-induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC), which can be fatal in certain situations.
