Auxiliary Power Units
Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) are small gas turbine engines that provide electrical power and/or compressed air to an aircraft while it is on the ground. APUs are typically located in the tail section of the aircraft and are used to power the aircraft's electrical systems, air conditioning, and other equipment while the main engines are shut down. They can also provide backup power in case of an emergency. APUs are especially useful for aircraft that operate in remote locations or at airports with limited ground support equipment. They can also help reduce fuel consumption and emissions by allowing the main engines to be shut down while on the ground.
