Catalytic Converters
Catalytic converters are devices that are installed in the exhaust system of an aircraft engine to reduce the emissions of harmful pollutants. They work by converting the harmful gases produced by the engine, such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides, into less harmful substances, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen. Catalytic converters are made up of a honeycomb-like structure coated with a catalyst, usually platinum, palladium, or rhodium. As the exhaust gases pass through the honeycomb, the catalyst causes a chemical reaction that breaks down the harmful pollutants. Catalytic converters are an important component of modern aircraft engines, helping to reduce the environmental impact of air travel.
