Noise-Induced Hearing Loss
Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is a type of hearing loss caused by exposure to loud noise. In aviation, NIHL can occur due to exposure to high levels of noise from aircraft engines, especially for ground crew and pilots. The damage caused by NIHL is irreversible and can be temporary or permanent. Symptoms of NIHL include difficulty hearing high-pitched sounds, tinnitus, and muffled hearing. Prevention of NIHL in aviation can be achieved through the use of hearing protection devices, such as earplugs or earmuffs, and by reducing exposure to loud noise.
