Positive Displacement Pumps
Positive Displacement Pumps are a type of pump that operates by trapping a fixed amount of fluid and then forcing (displacing) that trapped volume into the discharge pipe. These pumps are commonly used in aviation for fuel transfer and hydraulic systems. Positive displacement pumps are preferred over centrifugal pumps for their ability to maintain a constant flow rate regardless of changes in pressure. They are also able to handle high viscosity fluids and are more efficient at higher pressures. However, they require more maintenance and are not suitable for handling abrasive fluids.
