Airline Alliance

An airline alliance is an agreement between two or more airlines to cooperate on a substantial level. The three largest passenger airline alliances are the Star Alliance, SkyTeam, and OneWorld. These alliances provide a network of connectivity and convenience for international passengers and international packages. Alliances also provide a seamless service for travelers, often allowing earning and redeeming miles or points across the allied airlines. They also coordinate timetables and often have VIP lounges shared among the alliance members. They also strive to have the same standards of service, which can vary greatly among airlines. The alliances were formed to help airlines take advantage of a larger market presence, to improve efficiencies, and to reduce operational costs. They can also negotiate better terms for contracts with suppliers and ground handling agents. The airlines share costs and revenues on certain routes and also provide operational support to each other.
