Airport Improvement Fees

Airport Improvement Fees (AIFs) are charges levied by airports on departing passengers to fund infrastructure development and improvement projects. These fees are collected by airlines during ticket sales and then remitted to the airport. AIFs are used to finance a wide range of projects such as runway expansions, terminal upgrades, and airfield maintenance. The amount of AIFs charged varies by airport and is typically based on the size and scope of the improvement projects. AIFs are an important source of revenue for airports, allowing them to fund necessary improvements and expansions without relying solely on government funding or increasing airline landing fees.
