Runway

A runway is a defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing and takeoff of aircraft. It includes the runway area, the stopway if provided, and the clearway if provided. The runway surface may be unpaved or paved. The runway is designed to provide a suitable surface for airplanes to take off and land safely. It must be long enough to allow the aircraft to accelerate to takeoff speed, and to stop safely on landing. The runway is marked with various signs and markings to provide guidance to pilots during takeoff and landing.
