Boom Operator
A boom operator is a member of the aerial refueling team responsible for operating the flying boom, a long, telescoping tube with movable flight control surfaces that can be extended from the rear of a tanker aircraft during aerial refueling. The boom operator controls the boom's movements to make contact with the receiving aircraft's refueling receptacle and maintains contact throughout the refueling process. The boom operator also monitors fuel transfer and communicates with both the receiving aircraft and the tanker's pilot to ensure safe and efficient refueling operations.
