Cathode Ray Tube
A cathode ray tube (CRT) is a type of vacuum tube that uses an electron gun to produce images on a phosphorescent screen. In aviation, CRTs were commonly used in older aircraft as displays for instruments such as the attitude indicator, horizontal situation indicator, and radar. These displays were later replaced by liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and other modern technologies. CRTs were preferred in aviation due to their high contrast and ability to display information in bright sunlight. However, they were heavy, bulky, and required a lot of power, making them less practical for modern aircraft.
