CFIT

Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) is an aviation accident in which an airworthy aircraft, under pilot control, is unintentionally flown into the ground, a mountain, water, or any other obstacle. CFIT accidents usually occur in conditions of reduced visibility, such as clouds, fog, or darkness, and are often the result of pilot error, misjudgment, or spatial disorientation. CFIT accidents are one of the most common causes of fatal aviation accidents worldwide.
