Chaff

Chaff is a radar countermeasure in which small, thin pieces of aluminum or other materials are spread in the air to create a cloud of reflective material that can confuse radar systems. When a radar signal hits the chaff, it reflects back a signal that is similar to the signal reflected by an aircraft, making it difficult for the radar operator to distinguish between the chaff and the aircraft. Chaff is often used by military aircraft to avoid detection by enemy radar systems.
