Electronic Warfare

Electronic Warfare (EW) refers to any action involving the use of the electromagnetic spectrum or directed energy to control the spectrum, attack an enemy, or impede enemy assaults. In aviation, EW is used to protect aircraft from threats such as surface-to-air missiles, radar-guided weapons, and other electronic threats. EW systems can detect, identify, and locate sources of electromagnetic radiation, and can also jam or deceive enemy sensors and communication systems. EW is an essential component of modern military aviation, and is used to enhance situational awareness, increase survivability, and improve mission success rates.
