Flight Data Recorders
Flight Data Recorders (FDRs), also known as black boxes, are electronic devices installed in aircraft to record and store data related to the performance and operation of the aircraft. This data includes information such as altitude, airspeed, heading, vertical acceleration, and control inputs. In the event of an accident or incident, the data recorded by the FDR can be used to help determine the cause of the event. FDRs are typically located in the tail section of the aircraft, where they are more likely to survive a crash. They are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, impact forces, and pressure changes, and can store data for a minimum of 2 hours. FDRs are required by law to be installed in all commercial aircraft.
