Hearing Tests

Hearing tests in aviation are conducted to ensure that pilots and air traffic controllers have adequate hearing to perform their duties safely. These tests are designed to measure the ability of an individual to hear sounds of different frequencies and intensities, as well as to detect speech in noisy environments. Hearing tests are typically conducted during initial pilot training and then periodically throughout a pilot's career to ensure that their hearing remains within acceptable limits. The most common hearing test used in aviation is the pure-tone audiometry test, which involves the use of headphones and a series of tones at different frequencies and intensities. Other tests may include speech discrimination tests and tests for middle ear function.
