High Frequency
High Frequency (HF) is a band of radio frequencies that are used for long-range communication in aviation. HF communication is used when VHF (Very High Frequency) communication is not possible due to the limitations of line-of-sight communication. HF communication is achieved by bouncing the radio waves off the ionosphere, which allows the signals to travel over long distances. However, HF communication is subject to interference from solar flares, thunderstorms, and other atmospheric conditions. To ensure reliable communication, pilots and air traffic controllers use standard phraseology and procedures when communicating via HF radio.
