In-flight Refueling
In-flight refueling, also known as air-to-air refueling, is the process of transferring aviation fuel from one aircraft (the tanker) to another (the receiver) during flight. This allows the receiver aircraft to remain airborne for extended periods of time, travel longer distances, or carry heavier payloads. In-flight refueling is commonly used by military aircraft, particularly bombers, fighters, and reconnaissance planes, to extend their range and mission capabilities. The process involves a boom or hose-and-drogue system, which is extended from the tanker aircraft to the receiver aircraft, and the transfer of fuel is controlled by the tanker's boom operator or the receiver's pilot.
