Safety Management System

A Safety management system (SMS) is a systematic approach to managing safety, including the necessary organizational structures, accountabilities, policies and procedures. It includes the necessary organizational arrangements to ensure safety is managed proactively, and that safety issues are identified, analyzed, and controlled before they can result in harm. An SMS provides a framework for integrating safety into all operational activities, including the identification of hazards, the assessment of risks, and the implementation of risk controls. It is a continuous improvement process that involves setting safety objectives, measuring performance, and taking corrective actions to improve safety performance.
