Skid

In aviation, a skid is a type of landing gear consisting of a metal framework with wheels or runners that can be lowered to allow an aircraft to land on a surface other than a prepared runway, such as snow, ice, or water. Skids are commonly used on helicopters, seaplanes, and other aircraft that operate in remote or rugged areas where traditional landing gear would be impractical. Skids are designed to absorb the shock of landing and provide stability on uneven surfaces. They are typically made of lightweight, high-strength materials such as aluminum or titanium.
