Static Stability

Static stability refers to the inherent ability of an aircraft to return to its original state of equilibrium after being disturbed by an external force. It is the initial response of an aircraft to a disturbance, without any pilot input. An aircraft is considered statically stable if it returns to its original state of equilibrium after being disturbed. Static stability is an important characteristic of an aircraft as it affects its handling qualities and safety. There are three types of static stability: positive, neutral, and negative. Positive static stability is when the aircraft returns to its original state of equilibrium after being disturbed. Neutral static stability is when the aircraft remains in its new state of equilibrium after being disturbed. Negative static stability is when the aircraft continues to move away from its original state of equilibrium after being disturbed.
