Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a medical condition characterized by the perception of sound in the absence of an external source of sound. In aviation, tinnitus can be caused by exposure to loud noises such as aircraft engines, which can damage the delicate hair cells in the inner ear. Pilots and other aviation personnel who are exposed to high levels of noise are at risk of developing tinnitus. Tinnitus can be temporary or permanent and can range from a mild annoyance to a debilitating condition that affects a person's quality of life.
