All-weather Landing System

All-weather Landing System (AWLS) is a set of navigational aids and procedures designed to provide safe and reliable aircraft approach and landing operations in adverse weather conditions, such as low visibility, strong crosswinds, and heavy precipitation. AWLS typically includes a combination of ground-based and onboard equipment, such as Instrument Landing System (ILS), Microwave Landing System (MLS), Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), and Head-up Display (HUD), as well as specific operating procedures and crew training. AWLS enhances the operational capability of airports and airlines, reduces flight delays and cancellations, and improves safety and passenger comfort.
