Altitude Separation
Altitude separation is the vertical distance between two aircraft, measured in feet or meters, to ensure safe vertical spacing between them. It is a critical component of air traffic control to prevent mid-air collisions. The standard altitude separation for aircraft flying at or above 29,000 feet is 1,000 feet. For aircraft flying below 29,000 feet, the standard separation is 500 feet. However, in certain situations, air traffic controllers may increase or decrease the separation distance based on the type of aircraft, their speed, and the weather conditions. Altitude separation is a crucial safety measure that helps to maintain the required distance between aircraft and prevent accidents.
