Separation
Separation in aviation refers to the maintenance of a minimum distance between aircraft, either horizontally or vertically, to prevent collisions. Separation is a critical component of air traffic control and is necessary to ensure the safety of all aircraft in the airspace. The required separation distance varies depending on the type of airspace, the altitude of the aircraft, and the speed at which they are traveling. Air traffic controllers use radar and other technologies to monitor the position and movement of aircraft and issue instructions to pilots to maintain the required separation. Failure to maintain separation can result in a loss of separation (LOS) incident, which is a serious safety violation.
