Automated Weather Observing Systems

Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS) are a suite of sensors which collect data to provide information about weather conditions for aviation purposes. These systems are designed to automatically provide updates about the weather every minute and transmit the data to pilots in real-time. The AWOS measures and reports a variety of meteorological parameters including temperature, dew point, wind speed and direction, visibility, cloud height and type, barometric pressure, and precipitation.
