Automation

In the context of aviation, automation refers to the use of systems or devices capable of performing a series of tasks that would otherwise require human input. These tasks can range from simple functions such as controlling aircraft systems to more complex operations like flight management. Automation in aviation is designed to enhance safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in flight operations. It reduces the workload of pilots, allowing them to focus more on strategic decision-making and management of the flight. Automation systems in aviation include autopilots, flight management systems (FMS), and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) systems. Autopilots can control an aircraft's trajectory, while FMS can plan, navigate, and control the flight. ADS-B systems provide surveillance information to pilots and air traffic controllers, enhancing situational awareness. However, over-reliance on automation can lead to complacency and loss of manual flying skills among pilots, which is a concern in the aviation industry.
