Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a level of medical care which is used for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital. In aviation, BLS is provided by flight attendants who are trained to handle medical emergencies that may occur during a flight. BLS includes performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), controlling bleeding, and managing the airway. Flight attendants are also trained to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to help restart a patient's heart if necessary. BLS is a critical component of aviation safety, as it can mean the difference between life and death in the event of a medical emergency during a flight.
