Fuels are substances that are burned to produce energy. In aviation, the most commonly used fuel is aviation turbine fuel (ATF), also known as jet fuel. ATF is a type of kerosene that is specifically designed for use in aircraft turbine engines. It has a high energy density and a low freezing point, which makes it ideal for use at high altitudes and in cold temperatures. Other types of fuels used in aviation include aviation gasoline (avgas), which is used in piston-engine aircraft, and biofuels, which are made from renewable sources such as vegetable oils and animal fats.
