Controlled Firing Area
A Controlled firing area (CFA) is a defined area where activities involving the use of hazardous materials such as explosives, missiles, rockets, or artillery are conducted. The activities within a CFA are under the control of the appropriate military authority. The airspace above a CFA may be restricted to certain types of aircraft or all aircraft depending on the nature of the activities being conducted. The purpose of a CFA is to provide a safe environment for military training and testing of weapons systems.
