Convection

In aviation, convection refers to the vertical movement of air caused by the heating of the Earth's surface. As the sun heats the ground, the air above it becomes warmer and less dense, causing it to rise. This rising air can create turbulence, updrafts, and downdrafts, which can be hazardous to aircraft. Pilots must be aware of convection when flying in areas with convective activity, such as thunderstorms, as it can cause severe turbulence and icing. Weather reports and forecasts can provide information on the likelihood and severity of convection in a given area.
