Course Deviation Indicator

Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) is an instrument in the cockpit of an aircraft that displays the lateral deviation of the aircraft from a selected course. It works in conjunction with the navigation system and provides the pilot with a visual indication of whether the aircraft is flying to the left or right of the desired course. The CDI is typically a part of the aircraft's navigation system and can be used with various types of navigation aids, such as VOR, GPS, and ILS. The instrument consists of a needle that moves left or right to indicate the deviation from the selected course, and a vertical scale that shows the amount of deviation in nautical miles.
