E-ticketing
In the context of aviation, E-ticketing, or electronic ticketing, refers to a digital ticketing system that has largely replaced traditional paper tickets. It is a method of ticketing for airline travel where no physical ticket is issued. Instead, a passenger's ticket details are stored in the airline's computer system. This system was introduced to improve efficiency, reduce the cost of handling and processing paper tickets, and prevent fraudulent practices. When a passenger books a flight, they receive an email confirmation or a receipt with a unique confirmation number. This number, along with a valid ID, is used to check-in for the flight. The airline's system links the e-ticket number to the passenger's reservation, which includes all the necessary details such as the passenger's name, the flight number, the date and time of travel, and the seat assignment. E-ticketing has become the standard in the aviation industry due to its convenience, security, and cost-effectiveness.
