En-route refers to the phase of flight when an aircraft is flying between departure and arrival points, typically at cruising altitude. During this phase, the aircraft is under the control of air traffic control centers, which provide guidance and instructions to ensure safe separation from other aircraft. En-route navigation is typically accomplished using a combination of ground-based navigation aids and satellite-based systems such as GPS. Pilots must also monitor weather conditions and adjust their flight path as necessary to avoid turbulence or adverse weather. The en-route phase of flight ends when the aircraft begins its descent towards the destination airport.
