Flammability
Flammability is the ability of a material to ignite and burn when exposed to a source of ignition. In aviation, flammability is a critical factor in the design and certification of aircraft and their components. Materials used in aircraft construction must meet strict flammability requirements to ensure the safety of passengers and crew in the event of a fire. The Federal aviation administration (FAA) has established regulations and testing procedures to evaluate the flammability of materials used in aircraft interiors, such as seats, carpets, and curtains. These tests measure the heat release rate, smoke density, and toxicity of burning materials. The results of these tests are used to determine whether a material is suitable for use in aircraft interiors.
