Flight Information Service Officer

A Flight Information Service Officer (FISO) is a professional in the aviation industry who provides information to pilots before, during, and after flights to ensure safe and efficient operations. They work in Flight Information Service Centres (FISCs) or at aerodromes where Air Traffic Control (ATC) is not provided. Their primary role is to assist pilots by providing them with information about weather conditions, runway status, navigation aids, and other relevant flight details. They do not have the authority to give instructions to pilots, but they can provide advice and recommendations. FISOs play a crucial role in maintaining the safety of the airspace by ensuring that pilots have all the necessary information to make informed decisions. They also liaise with other aviation professionals such as air traffic controllers, meteorologists, and airport operations staff to gather and disseminate accurate and timely flight information. To become a FISO, individuals must undergo rigorous training and certification processes, including theoretical knowledge tests and practical assessments.
