TCAS

TCAS stands for Traffic Collision avoidance System. It is an aircraft system that uses radar technology to detect the presence of other aircraft in the vicinity and provides instructions to the pilot to avoid a potential collision. TCAS operates independently of ground-based air traffic control and is designed to prevent mid-air collisions in both commercial and general aviation. The system provides pilots with visual and audio alerts to take evasive action, such as climbing or descending, to avoid a potential collision. TCAS is mandatory for all commercial aircraft with a seating capacity of more than 19 passengers and for all aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of over 15,500 pounds.
