Flight Segment
A flight segment is a part of a journey that involves travel between two points without any layover of more than 4 hours between the arrival at the point of stopover and the departure from that point. A flight segment is identified by a flight number, scheduled departure time, and scheduled arrival time. In the airline industry, flight segments are used to determine the price of a ticket, as well as to calculate frequent flyer miles and elite status. For example, a round-trip journey from New York to Los Angeles with a layover in Chicago would consist of two flight segments: New York to Chicago and Chicago to Los Angeles.
