Foreign Object Debris

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) refers to any object or material that is not part of an aircraft or its components, which can potentially cause damage to aircraft or harm to personnel. FOD can be anything from loose screws, bolts, or nuts to rocks, gravel, or even wildlife on the runway or taxiway. FOD can cause damage to aircraft engines, tires, and other critical components, leading to costly repairs, delays, or even accidents. To prevent FOD, airports and airlines implement strict FOD prevention programs, which include regular inspections, cleaning, and training for personnel. Pilots and ground crews are also trained to report any FOD they see on the runway or taxiway.
