Knots Calibrated Airspeed
Knots Calibrated airspeed (KCAS) is the speed of an aircraft relative to the air it is flying through, measured in knots, and corrected for instrument and position errors. KCAS is determined by adjusting the indicated airspeed (IAS) for errors caused by instrument and position, such as installation and instrument errors, and the compressibility of the air. KCAS is important for pilots to maintain a safe and efficient flight, as it is used to determine the aircraft's performance, such as lift, drag, and fuel consumption. It is also used for air traffic control purposes, as it provides a standard measure of an aircraft's speed.
