Lean-burn Combustion

Lean-burn combustion is a combustion process used in aviation gas turbine engines where the air-fuel mixture is leaner than stoichiometric (the ideal air-fuel ratio for complete combustion). This process reduces the amount of fuel burned and the emissions produced, while increasing fuel efficiency. Lean-burn combustion is achieved by increasing the amount of air in the combustion chamber, which lowers the temperature and reduces the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx). However, lean-burn combustion can also lead to increased carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) emissions, which must be controlled through the use of catalysts or other technologies.
