MCAS

MCAS (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System) is a flight control software system developed by Boeing for the 737 MAX series aircraft. It is designed to automatically adjust the horizontal stabilizer to prevent the aircraft from entering a stall in certain flight situations. The system uses data from angle of attack sensors to determine if the aircraft is in danger of stalling and will push the nose down to prevent it. MCAS was implicated in two fatal crashes of the 737 MAX in 2018 and 2019, leading to the grounding of the aircraft and a redesign of the system.
