Lightning Protection Systems
Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) are designed to protect aircraft from the damaging effects of lightning strikes. LPS typically consist of a network of conductive materials that are integrated into the aircraft's structure, including lightning rods, metallic strips, and wire meshes. These materials are strategically placed to provide a low-resistance path for lightning current to follow, allowing it to safely dissipate into the ground. LPS also include surge suppression devices that protect sensitive electronic equipment from power surges that can occur during a lightning strike. The effectiveness of LPS is tested through a series of rigorous certification tests to ensure that they meet the safety standards set by regulatory agencies.
