Power Surges

Power surges refer to a sudden increase in electrical voltage that can cause damage to electronic equipment. In aviation, power surges can occur in aircraft electrical systems due to lightning strikes, engine start-up, or other electrical malfunctions. These surges can damage avionics equipment, such as radios, navigation systems, and flight instruments, and can pose a safety risk to the aircraft. To prevent power surges, aircraft are equipped with surge protection devices, such as transient voltage suppressors and surge arrestors, which divert excess voltage away from sensitive equipment. Regular maintenance and inspections of these devices are necessary to ensure their effectiveness.
