Matrix Material

Matrix Material refers to a composite material that is made up of a reinforcement material and a matrix material. The reinforcement material provides the strength and stiffness to the composite, while the matrix material holds the reinforcement material in place and transfers the load between the reinforcement fibers. In aviation, matrix materials are commonly used in the manufacturing of aircraft structures, such as wings, fuselages, and tail sections. The most commonly used matrix materials in aviation are thermosetting resins, such as epoxy, polyester, and phenolic resins, due to their high strength, stiffness, and resistance to heat and chemicals.
