Mayday Call
Mayday call is an emergency procedure used by pilots and air traffic controllers in the event of a life-threatening emergency. The term Mayday is derived from the French word m'aider, which means 'help me'. When a pilot declares a Mayday, it means that the aircraft is in imminent danger and requires immediate assistance. The Mayday call is reserved for situations such as engine failure, fire, or any other emergency that requires immediate action. The pilot will transmit the Mayday call on the emergency frequency of 121.5 MHz and provide information about the nature of the emergency, the aircraft type, and its location. The air traffic controller will then coordinate with the appropriate emergency services to provide assistance.
