Memory
In aviation, memory refers to a set of procedures or actions that a pilot must be able to recall and perform from memory without the need for reference to a checklist or other documentation. These procedures are critical to flight safety and include emergency procedures, abnormal procedures, and normal procedures that are time-critical or safety-critical. Memory items are typically identified in the aircraft's operating manual or quick reference handbook (QRH) and are trained and practiced by pilots during initial and recurrent training. The ability to recall and execute memory items accurately and efficiently is a key competency for pilots and is evaluated during proficiency checks and line operations.
