North Atlantic Tracks

North Atlantic Tracks (NAT) are transatlantic flight routes that stretch from the northeast of North America to western Europe, crossing the Atlantic Ocean. They are often the shortest routes between the two continents, and are therefore heavily used by commercial and cargo flights. The tracks are determined daily, based on the forecasted wind patterns, in order to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize flight time. The tracks are divided into 'Eastbound' and 'Westbound' tracks, which are used at different times of the day to avoid head-on collisions. The tracks are managed by air traffic control centers in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and Shanwick, Ireland. The North Atlantic Tracks system is a critical component of international air travel, facilitating safe and efficient transatlantic flights.
