Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs are medications that can only be obtained with a written order from a licensed healthcare provider, such as a doctor or a nurse practitioner. In aviation context, pilots and air traffic controllers are prohibited from using prescription drugs that may impair their ability to perform their duties safely. The Federal aviation administration (FAA) maintains a list of approved and prohibited medications for aviation personnel. Pilots and air traffic controllers must report any use of prescription drugs to the FAA and obtain clearance before returning to duty. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in disciplinary action or revocation of the individual's medical certificate.
